Also called summer oak, white-fronted, lime, winter-meshe. Latin name of the herb: Cortex Quercus albi. Description: one-domed, split-poles, up to 50 m high. Summer oak has nude, brown-green twigs. The winter oak is covered with brown-red and naked annual twigs. Leaves - perennially incised on 4-7 pairs, most often pointed blades and top are naked, dark green, and bottom - fluffy. The cup of the acorn on the outside has fluffy flakes. They bloom in April - May. Chemical composition: tanning agents, gallic, ellagic acid, catechins, carbohydrates, resins, protein substances. Many oak species contain up to 20% tannin, with some Mediterranean species reaching 58%. Application: external: in skin diseases, especially eczema, furunculitis, acne, seborrhoea, mouth inflammation, sore throat and bleeding gums, sweating of the feet. It has astringent, anti-inflammatory and haemostatic action. Inner: in colic and diarrhea. Preparation: 1-2 teaspoons of the herb are boiled for 3-4 minutes in 1/2 liter of water (for tea) and 2 tablespoons per 1 liter of water (for baths).
